The Major System

Do numbers evaporate from your mind? Do you wish that they could stay and last like stone megaliths? Then the major number system can help. Invented by Von Wennshein in the mid-seventeenth century, and slightly modified and adjusted by an English man Dr Richard Grey in the eighteenth century.

The major system makes it possible to remember numbers, by substituting words. The words are chosen to be easily visualised and hence easily remembered.

The words that form the mnemonics to represent numbers are selected by using a code. The code associates the numbers 0..9 with letters as follows:

The vowels a,e,i,o and u and also the letters h, w, and y do not play a part in the major system, acting instead as wild cards, when finding suitable words.
